Emanuel Vardi Rare Minimalist Calligraphy Style Work on Paper, 1966

$375.00
1 of 9

This is a very rare minimalist calligraphy-style work on paper by renowned classical musician, Emanuel Vardi. This intriguing work is signed and dated 1966.

Emanuel Vardi was a world-famous viola maestro considered to be one of the most important classical musicians of the 20th century. Known mostly for his classical work, Mr. Vardi also worked in the jazz genre and he forged a strong partnership with jazz musician and band leader Lenny Hambro. This work of art was apparently gifted to Mr. Hambro. A label on the back of the frame indicates Mr. Hambro's name and address detail.

The piece is comprised of light, minimal black stokes on what appears to be wrinkled buff-colored rice paper. There is a modern calligraphic feel to the piece, with the lines indicating an organic form, probably a tree. It is naively realized, but retains an excellent modernist, minimal feel to it.

It is nicely framed behind glass with a linen-style matting and a gold-tone would frame.

The work appears to be in good condition with no damage. The frame has nicks and chips.

Including frame, the piece measures about 25" x 29" x 1.5" .
