This is one of the best Ekoi head dress figures I have ever seen. Not one of your pretty and precise tourist/export pieces, this wonderful and eerie piece is the real thing. Carved in wood with a face covered in skin, this Ekoi head dress also features the traditional spiral horns. The carving sits on a bed of woven cane and mud. It's facial features are certainly frightening, but these pieces were not for sinister magic, they were used in performance and celebrations including funerals and initiations during which the piece was designed to be strapped to the top of one's head. By tradition, the piece was smoked over a fire to give it the darkened patina and so also has a lovely smokey aroma to it.

This piece is in great condition for it's age with some typical and age related wear and tear.

It measures about 15" x 8" x 7"
